Celebrating 20 Years at The Tech

A cultural center leverages its beloved architecture to promote its 20th anniversary

The Tech Interactive (f.k.a. The Tech Museum of Innovation) opened its doors on October 31, 1998. The Media + Community team saw the 20th anniversary in 2018 as an opportunity to craft a campaign that highlighted the institution’s history and to reaffirm our dedication to the community.

The task

I was tasked with designing a logo that would push the anniversary campaign towards donors, members, staff and future visitors.

The Outcome

Because The Tech Interactive is easily identifiable to many Silicon Valley residents as “the big orange building in Downtown San Jose,” I chose to showcase the iconic mango facade and azure dome in the logo. Using the brand’s core colors, I constructed a minimalist representation of the architecture as seen on the corner of 1st and Market Street, and brought in the 20 by connecting the tail of the 2 to the building’s left wall. The approved logo was then used to emblazon our marketing materials and internal swag, and to promote the 20th anniversary through the end of the year.

Embroidered backpacks were gifted to staff during our annual holiday party.
